The kind of love that comes with a whole lot of laughter 🤍


From the moment we started Darian + Eli’s engagement session, I knew this one was going to be fun.


These two laughed their way through basically the entire evening—and those ended up being some of my absolute favorite photographs from their session. The kind where you can almost hear the laughter just by looking at them.


We started by the water, soaking in the warm summer evening and giving them a chance to get comfortable in front of my camera. It didn’t take long before the posing disappeared and they were simply being them.


Laughing. Teasing each other. Snuggling up on the dock. And sneaking in all those little looks that happen when they forget someone is standing there with a camera.


More than pretty pictures


This is exactly why I love engagement sessions.


Of course, we’re going to create the beautiful photos you’ll hang on your walls and use for save-the-dates—but I also want to photograph what your relationship actually feels like.


The way you reach for each other’s hand without thinking.


The way one person can make the other completely lose it laughing.


The quiet moments in between.


Those are the photographs that tell your story.


As the evening went on, we wandered away from the water and into the tall grass, letting that gorgeous Southwest Iowa golden light do its thing. Darian + Eli walked, twirled, laughed some more, and soaked up one of the last little chapters of their engagement.


Next stop: the wedding day 🥹


There is something extra special about photographing an engagement session when I know I’ll get to see my couple again on their wedding day.


An engagement session gives us time to get comfortable together before all the excitement of the wedding. They get to learn how I photograph and guide them, and I get to see all those little things that make their relationship theirs.


And after spending this evening with Darian + Eli, I already know their wedding day is going to be such a good one.


September 18th is coming FAST, and the next time these two are in front of my camera, they’ll be getting married. 🤍
