KYLE & KAY'S ENGAGEMENT SESSION AT THEIR FAMILY FARM
There are engagement sessions that are beautiful, and then there are engagement sessions that feel like home.
Kyle and Kay invited me onto their family farm in Southwest Iowa, where they’ll also be getting married next July. Every corner of their property tells a piece of their story, making it the perfect place to celebrate this season before they become husband and wife.
As we wandered through the rolling countryside, their horses greeted us at the fence, curious cows slowly wandered over to say hello, and blooming flowers surrounded us in every direction. Nothing about this evening felt staged. It simply felt like them.
One of my favorite parts of documenting engagement sessions is incorporating the places that mean the most to my couples. Years from now, these photographs won’t just remind Kyle and Kay of what they looked like—they’ll remember the family farm where they built so many memories together and where they’ll promise forever.
Kay is truly one of those people who lights up every room she walks into. She has the kind of personality that instantly makes you feel comfortable, and her passion for her community shines through everything she does. She’s heavily involved in her local 4-H program, loves serving others, and has such a contagious joy that made the entire evening effortless.
Kyle is quieter by nature, but sometimes the loudest love doesn’t come from words.
It comes from the way someone looks at the person they love.
Throughout the session, I kept catching those little moments—the smile he couldn’t hide when she laughed, the way he instinctively reached for her hand, and the soft expressions that spoke volumes without either of them saying anything at all. You can tell he’s absolutely head over heels for Kay.
As the sun settled over the hills, we finished the evening surrounded by golden light, wildflowers, horses, and cattle grazing nearby. It was one of those Iowa summer evenings that reminds you just how beautiful simple moments can be.
I already know next July is going to be incredibly special.
If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day will be filled with laughter, quiet glances, joyful tears, and so much genuine love.
Kyle and Kay, thank you for welcoming me onto your family’s farm and trusting me to preserve such an important season of your lives. I cannot wait to celebrate with you both next summer.
