Golden Hour in the Sunflowers | Red Oak, Iowa Mini Sessions


There are only a few weeks each summer when the sunflower fields are bursting with color, making them one of the most beautiful places to preserve life’s sweetest moments.


Every year, I look forward to this season. The golden evening light, the vibrant blooms, and the genuine laughter shared between families create an experience that feels both joyful and timeless. It’s one of those fleeting moments in Iowa that reminds us to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us.


This year’s sunflower mini sessions in Red Oak, Iowa, were filled with everything I love most about photography. Little ones explored the rows of sunflowers with wide-eyed wonder, parents soaked in precious moments with their children, and families simply enjoyed being together. There wasn’t any pressure to be perfect—just room to laugh, connect, and create memories.


One of my favorite parts of these sessions is watching everyone relax. After a few minutes, the focus shifts away from the camera and back to what matters most: the people standing beside you. Those are the moments I hope you’ll treasure years from now.


The warm glow of golden hour paired with the vibrant yellow blooms creates a backdrop that’s both stunning and timeless. It’s a reminder that some of life’s most beautiful moments are found in the simplest places.
